Working on a Piece about the Olympics Online – your thoughts appreciated

Hello gentle readers – apologies for the lack of posts lately. I have been battling both a little summer cold and some pressing deadlines. The good news is both seem to be fairly resolved (the cold is nearly gone and all but one of my urgently over-due to-do’s is complete).

And with my wealth of sudden free time I started putting some of my own commentary on the Olympics coverage together. Obviously many have been writing this up online already, but who doesn’t want to chime in on a hot topic? Anyway, that should be up in the next day or so, but in the mean time, i’m curious as to your own thoughts about how the Olympics coverage, particularly the video, has been handled online this go around. drop me an email at andybeach (at) gmail (dot) com or leave a comment here.

I like it. Tried the web browser with Silverlight, now I’m on to the Media Center player (Vista), the HD showcase looks especially good:

Not sure if you’re still working on this, but you still want a good story? Talk to the execs at Digital Rapids — these are the guys providing all the encoding gear for live streaming at NBCOlympics.com. They tell an interesting story on all the challenges (physical and technical) that the IBC placed on them. They obviously met those challenges because you can’t argue the quality of the live streams coming out of Beijing. Let me know if you want to connect with them; I can help. Thanks!
